WHAT'S NEW
Exciting programs followed the Geopark Week event till the end of June at the Fossils.
The European Geoparks Week, taking place at late May early June each year, is a European – wide festival of Geoparks. The Bükk National Park Directorate endorses this event.
Crocodilia was discovered beside the Rhinoland during the newest excavation on the geological study path of the site.

Fossils
The Lower Miocene strata of the Ipolytarnoc Fossil Site contains both marine and terrestrial fossils, including shark teeth, petrified trees, leaf impressions and tracks. Footprints of 11 vertebrate species have been described on the footprint-bearing sandstone, which was conserved by volcanic tuff covering.
It was due to the sudden volcanic catastrophe, which buried and conserved the paleohabitat, that fossil remains in so many plentitude survived. The site is considered the prime fossil locality of Hungary.
