Welcome!

Dear Visitor,

You are reading the introductory page of Ipolytarnóc Fossils. Our renowned nature conservation area has been stewarding its unparallelled relics, fossils since the  area got protection status in 1944.  It is managed by the Bükk National Park Directorate. A volcanic catastrophe destroyed the paleohabitat and preserved its treasures at the same time by burrying them. It is the main gateway to the world's first crossborder geopark, the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark. It is only 150 kms north-east of Budapest, close to the Slovakian border.
Seaside sand interspersed with shark's teeth, huge, petrified trees from a subtropical jungle, leaf impressions of exotic plants, footprints of monsters, remains caked together in the hot flow of volcanic tuff – and all these are in situ, on display along a geological study path. The site has huge potentials for further discoveries, only a shred of the area has been excavated so far. Much of our past is still buried unexplored underneath!

Come and discover the treasures of the area! Go on browsing. Now only on the net , but do not hesitate to visit us. You are welcome, we are open again with a new 4DX movie, even on May 1.
